Every girl deserves the opportunity to bloom as a future leader

Programs and activities

Our primary objective is to ensure education, healthcare, and livelihood training for young girls to help them grow into self-sufficient women. We are currently running the following for the benefit of the girls and the community:

Education

At present 24 girls are studying from Class 1 to Class 5 at the safe home. In terms of secondary and higher secondary education, 16 girls are attending a nearby school and college. Additionally, all girls receive special coaching and mentoring from their teachers and patrons of the home. There are three full-time resident female teachers at the home, four non-resident teachers and various specialists for skills training. The safe home also has a library through which girls can access various learning resources.

Physical Education

All girls are encouraged to be fit and active through a daily exercise regime as well as participating in various sports.

Guest speakers

DMNAPK actively organizes informative and motivational talks facilitated by speakers from diverse backgrounds. These interactive sessions are designed to expand the knowledge base in different topics.

Cultural programs

DMNAPK encourages the girls to participate in culture shows within the home as well as at school. The girls are learning poetry, storytelling, singing and performance art.

Garments and dress-making

Girls living at the home are provided training on multiple cloth-making techniques, including sewing, cutting, measurement and blueprint reading. These skills capacitate them to engage in dress-making, knitting sweaters etc. Thus, young girls can also explore the possibilities to develop livelihood skills to become self-reliant in future. These skills also enhance their employability, particularly within the garments sector.

Cooking

The safe home organizes cooking training for girls aged from 14 to 18 years. The purpose of this training is to provide them with necessary preparation to potentially become associated with the catering and tourism industry, as well as prepare them to attend multiple household tasks efficiently. Once they receive the training, girls can also cook their own food. Proper health and safety measures are followed.

Housekeeping

DMNAPK trains girls on making beds, maintaining cleanliness within the home, safe hygiene practices, kitchen maintenance, etc. In the process, the girls obtain crucial knowledge on personal development, sanitation and to be organized in whatever tasks they approach.

Gardening

The campus houses a nursery within its premises where most of the older girls (aged 10 to 18 years) receive training on horticulture. A gardener provides hands-on practical exercises on multiple techniques of cultivation and gardening. Different kinds of fruits, vegetables and cash plants are grown at the nursery and most of the girls know the names of the trees; a practice that creates a different kind of knowledge base for the girls.

Poultry and Cow rearing

The campus houses a number of ducks, chickens and several cows. The girls are taught to take care of them with the help of a gardener. The gardener provides hands-on practical exercises on different techniques.

Medical aide training

Girls living at the safe home receive basic training at our charity clinic facility with regard to taking care of the ailing, to assist doctor and paramedic, registrar, distribution of medicines while they treat the patients and so on. At present, four girls are receiving training on Fridays on how to measure temperature, height and weight, blood pressure, medical record keeping, registration of patients, and assisting doctor and paramedic while they check patients from different age groups. Once a month the height and weight of the 40 girls living at the home are measured and recorded to assess the nutritional status.

Weekend charity clinic

Since 2013 DMNAPK has been running a weekend charity clinic project, with financial and technical assistance from NABIC. The main objective of the clinic is to improve the health status of community members in the project area by ensuring quality health services and medicine for underprivileged people. The charity clinic provides free service to poor patients including mothers, children, adolescents, and the elderly. Moreover, the project offers a medical training scheme to the girls living in the home in Gazipur. In future DMNAPK wants to expand the training for girls who live in the community.
