What our students say

“When I came to the safe home in 2005, I was six years old. I have been living here for more than 12 years. This year I am studying in 1st year of higher secondary certificate. My favourite subject is psychology and I want to work as a journalist in the future. The reason for coming to the home is for security and education. I come from a very poor family with 10 siblings, including me. During my time here I have not had to face the poverty that I saw in my childhood. This home has given me a very beautiful life. I am very grateful to the management and teachers of this home.”

–Mahmuda Rashid

“My name is Tahmina and I am 17 years old. I joined the safe home in June 2005 in Class 1, when I was seven years old. I have been living here for 10 years. This year I appeared for my secondary school certificate exams and succeeded to get an A. My favourite subjects are history and geography. I want to be a teacher when I grow up. At the home I learned discipline, computer, and cooking, sewing and cutting. This home gave me a beautiful life, otherwise I would be in the dark. I want to be an educated person and want to change my own life as well as that of my family and work for our home and for the country.”

–Tahmina Haque

“I was brought to the safe home when I was six years old in 2009. Now I am 12 years old. My mother, who works as a maid, was going through economic hardship. The madam of that house helped my mother to admit me in this home. Now I am studying in Class 6. The environment of the home is very good for studying. My life has completely changed. I feel I have a secure life and can study hard. As my favourite subject is agriculture, I enjoy learning about animal rearing and gardening at the home. Here I learnt how to dream about my future. I want to complete my studies and look for a job as soon as possible. I feel my mother is working very hard and she needs rest.”

–Rabeya Akter

My family was going through very difficult times. My parents were unable to pay for my education. The environment of this home wonderful. I got the scope of getting education. I like my studies. I am growing in a good environment, which I never dreamed of in the past. I want to be an educated person and want to establish myself as a teacher. I am very grateful to our home for giving me the opportunity to stay here.”

what our visitors say

My dream was to develop a safe home for girls for their security, basic education and life skills to make them empowered in the future. When I see these girls, they seem to be so happy and secure at the safe home. I feel peace in my mind. I wish in future they will be self-reliant, empowered and good citizens of the country. They will uplift their life and poverty will be unable to grab them anymore. A new generation will be developed. My heartfelt thanks go out to everybody from Bangladesh and overseas who initially supported and are still supporting these girls. Without your help this project would not have materialised.
